The day after people like me move to Galt's Gulch, drains everywhere will back up, and there will be lots of action on 9-1-1.
We don't "need" Obamacare or socialism. Necessity is the mother of invention. If people have never had to think, or be self-sufficient, how will they ever know what they are capable of?
It's amazing how quickly they can learn, when the need arises. If a disaster occurs, and folks simply sit around waiting to be rescued, they will either not survive, or figure out how to! Those who are producers; who have skills, ideas, and products that others need and want; will barter, hire, market, sell (or bargain), and prosper.
And so it goes. This is normal human nature. If you are guaranteed a job (even if you don't really work or show up drunk), you have no incentive to improve your situation, nor would you be inspired to contribute to fellow human beings in need. Why should you? They get a handout, why should you care what happens to them?
Note that under communist regimes, the people don't prosper, no matter how hard they work, how smart they are, or what skills they have. Everybody's equal, right? Factory workers, street sweepers, writers, doctors, cooks, farm laborers, are all equally miserable. Everybody's equal...except for those in authority.
Funny how that works. It starts with concentrating the people in tiny apartments in the cities, and limiting their mobility. Mass transit is forced. It's so much easier to round people up this way; they're already in a small geographical area, perhaps with walls and guards.
They decide how the population will live, what they can own, what is produced, what may be written, what may be spoken; any form of criticism of those in authority is not tolerated.
Hmmm...I grew up in a different America, that I see moving towards what I describe above. The same generation who grew up believing they are entitled to whatever they want, when they want it, have not had the freedom to become self-sufficient.
They have become anesthetized, and do not realize that there is a trade-off for being dependent. They were too busy being self-indulgent, getting in touch with their feelings, and being taught that their self-esteem is what is important, not their performance. They were so busy being coddled and entertained, that they never noticed they were losing their liberty.
These same people grew up believing that they should be able to go, and do whatever they wish, anytime they like. They will soon find out that they will be told what to drive, what color their cars must be--well, GM (Government Motors) will only be producing specific models and colors.
They will be told how warm or cool they are allowed to keep their homes, and what size home they are allowed to have--after all, they are no better than their neighbor, and their neighbor's family could share that home with them.
They will be told when, and if, they will receive medical care, tests, and medicines (also which medicines). After all, you are 40 years old, and not worth investing in because you weigh 20 pounds more than the "State Health Commission" has deemed they should. And your 75 year-old grandmother? Well, her life is nearly over anyway, we can't afford to waste money treating her diabetes.
And you know what will happen when somebody finally tells this generation, "NO?" They won't like it one bit. They will cry, "You can't deny me, I am entitled! I have RIGHTS! To life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness! It's in the Constitution someplace, it's my right!"
The response will be: "Constitution? Oh, you decided it was a living, breathing document, so we killed it."
